Since the beginning of Ride Hacks, we have stood for providing the most comprehensive reviews of prestige car rentals in Australia. However when we set out on this journey we didn’t expect to also become the most comprehensive reviewer of the Audi A3.
Whether this is good or bad luck, Audi has been proactive in doing deals with GoGet, Hertz and Hertz 24/7, so we have a lot of A3’s to choose from. That’s not really a bad thing.
Honestly, I like the A3. It’s a great car to drive. There is enough fun in the modest engine, the interior is well-refined, and you’re going to feel a touch more class than driving the Japanese or Korean alternatives.
Naturally, when I was taking care of some business in Singapore and a client of mine mentions they will be in Sydney the following week, I jumped at the opportunity to put on my pretend Uber Black hat and chauffeur them to their destination — Castle Hill, not exactly a cheap taxi ride from Sydney Airport. How nice of me.
I’ve been waiting for a chance to try out the Avis Signature Series which seem to only be found at Sydney and Melbourne Airports. However with the $17 train ticket (or god-forbid, a taxi fare) to the airport to pick up the car, it didn’t seem such a smart time to test it out.
So the Hertz 24/7 Audi Q5 was chosen as the car for the job.
